While typing the travel diary for San Diego, I realized that I totally forgot the one for the Grand Canyon somehow. And obviously, I didn’t want to keep the pics and the info from you, so here we go!
The Grand Canyon has been on my list of things I would love to do for ages! When talking to the backpackers I met in San Francisco, I realized that going there from Las Vegas for one day might be a bit short and not make it possible to go hiking. Me and my boyfriend thought of changing plans to be able to spend more time there, but due to other plans, this wasn’t really possible. So, long story short, I just had to accept that hiking in the Grand Canyon might stay on my bucket list for some more time and could not be done this time.
From Vegas to the Grand Canyon and back in one day
The alarm goes off early in the morning and at first, I am not motivated at all to get out of my bed. But: we are finally going to the Grand Canyon! So I get out of bed, get some breakfast to go and don’t even wonder about the people already sitting in the casino of our hotel at 7AM. It’s Vegas, after all.
My boyfriends starts the navigation and there we go. It’s quite a long drive, we are planning on going to the skywalk and then maybe see some other points with a good view. After a few hours driving through empty land with some occasional caravans next to the highway we arrive in some small village – without seeing the Grand Canyon or something that could be canyon at all. The navigation keeps telling us that we arrived at our destination and we are a bit clueless. We get back to the street we have been following most of the time to realize, that it’s Route 66.
After another hour and some stopping to ask for the way, we finally make it to the East entrance of the Grand Canyon national park. We arrive in Grand Cayon village and make our first stop at the desert view watsch tower. The view is amazing, and I forget about the annoying ride and the time. We take photos, just enjoy being there and cannot stop looking. At some point, we decide to check out some more view points.
Every single one of them is amazing. When we get back to the Grand Canyon Village, I am sure: one day, I will come back and have more time to not only see this amazing landscape, but also to finally do some hikes.
Wow, beautifully captured ! Vegas to Grand Canyon and back in one day ! Brilliant.
