Time is flying again, and the last weeks have shown that the end of my time here in New York City comes faster than I’d like…so I decided to finally do some things each weekend that are still on my to do list for New York. One of the first things was to go to Roosevelt Island, of which I had seen really nice pictures.
I haven’t looked up what exactly I could expect from Roosevelt Island, so when I came there, I was surpised by the big park and the awesome views of Manhattan, Long Island City and Queens. Roosevelt Island has been used for prisons and hospitals in the past, and the ruins of the Smallpox Hospital that has been closed in the 1950s are still there, in a really nice and quiet park.
I loved walking around and exploring the park, but also just sitting in the park, enjoying the city views and the quietness which is rare in the city. I saw that they also offer yoga classes on Roosevelt Island regularly, but that’s a bit far from home, so I don’t think I’ll join them…
Roosevelt Island Tram
Another special thing about Roosevelt Island is the tram. I went to the island by subway, but took the tram on the way back to Manhattan, with great views once more. It’s the only tram in New York (as far as I know), and it’s so worth it! Even if it takes longer than the subway…
Have you been to Roosevelt Island? What did you think of it?
